IVF / Test Tube Baby is a method of assisted reproductive technology (ART) in which eggs and sperm are combined outside the womb (uterus) in a specialized laboratory. The fertilized egg, or embryo is then transferred back into the woman’s uterus.
• Low sperm counts or Nil sperms
• Endometriosis
• Blocked fallopian tubes
• Cyst in Uterus
• Ovulation disorders / Irregular periods
• Other health or unexplained reproductive issues
It typically takes 3-4 weeks to prepare for IVF, followed by a stimulation phase that entails about 8-10 days and an egg retrieval is performed 2 days later. After egg retrieval the fertilization is done using sperm in the lab. 3-5 days after fertilization the embryos are transferred into the women’s uterus. So in total approx. 2 months.
The success rate of IVF depends on various factors viz. reasons for infertility, frozen or fresh embryo cycle, self or donor eggs and most importantly the age of the patient. Globally females under 35 years of age have 50% of success chances and it reduces with age.
As per Indian Government law the age of female has to be between 21 to 50 years and male between 21 to 55 years.
